Dr. Stephen Britt is a skilled, compassionate general and bariatric surgeon who is dedicated to improving the lives of people who struggle with chronic obesity through his work here at Destination Weight Loss. He is currently serving as the Chief of Surgery at both the Marshall Medical Center North and the Medical Director of the Marshall Wound Healing Center.
Education & Training
As a native of Dunlap, Tennessee, Dr. Britt chose to pursue his education and establish his medical practice in his beloved home state. He graduated with the highest honors from East Tennessee State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree before beginning his medical training at the Quillen College of Medicine, East Tennessee State University.
Dr. Stephen Britt completed his general surgery residency at UT Chattanooga, where he gained valuable experience in all areas of general surgery and the related sub-specialties. Because UT Chattanooga is a designated Level I Trauma Center, graduates from this renowned program are well-equipped to provide exceptional surgical care to a wide variety of patients, including those dealing with complex co-morbid conditions related to obesity.
Bariatric Surgery Specialization
Dr. Britt joined Surgical Associates of Marshall County in 2003 because he wanted to provide his patients with the latest in advanced surgical care and technologies in a “small town” setting. He currently offers general surgical services and advanced laparoscopic procedures to treat conditions such as appendicitis, hernias, colon cancer, and varicose veins.
Here at Destination Weight Loss, Dr. Stephen Britt focuses on performing laparoscopic bariatric surgery, including Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric banding (LAP-BAND) and sleeve gastrectomy. As a skilled bariatric surgeon, Dr. Britt also regularly performs bariatric revisions using OverStitch and the non-surgical ORBERA gastric balloon.
